DGS Mencap has a new name – DGSM yourChoice

On 1st April 2009 DGS Mencap changed its name to DGSM yourChoice. Although the charity remains affiliated to National Mencap the affiliation level has changed meaning DGS Mencap is no longer able to use the Mencap name. 

A consultation exercise amongst service users, staff, members and volunteers gave a clear message that the Mencap name should be dropped.  At our AGM in September 2008, the name DGSM was confirmed.

A re-branding committee was set up comprising a service user, two Trustees, a staff forum member, a corporate sponsor and two staff members. It was   decided at this meeting that the name DGSM needed something more and agreement was reached for us to be to be called DGSM yourChoice.  This was felt to be representative of people with learning disabilities being able to make their own choices.

ITRM Resource Management, corporate sponsors, kindly offered to create the new logo for‘DGSM yourChoice’ free of charge. You can see the new logo above.  The new logo and our new website was launched at the Spring Ball on Saturday 28th March and a special event that took place on Friday 3rd April 2009.
